We are thrilled to announce the premiere of the trailer to our documentary, "Robots to the Rescue," at the Veterinary Endoscopy Society (VES) Annual Conference held in Santa Barbara, CA. This groundbreaking film features Dr. Nicole Buote, the current President of VES and an Associate Professor of Small and Companion Animal Surgery at Cornell University's College of Veterinary Medicine.
This documentary, made by award-winning Filmmakers Christy Frank and Grace Eggleston, will be completed in early 2025. The film delves into how Cornell, under Dr. Buote's leadership, navigated the challenges of cost and ongoing instrumentation support by partnering with R2 Surgical.
The primary challenge was incorporating robotic surgery to enhance treatment possibilities and educational opportunities without the exorbitant costs usually associated. R2 Surgical provided a solution by supplying a pre-owned da Vinci® Si-e™ robot, known for its precision in human medicine and now, making its mark in veterinary practices.
The collaboration began in 2023 with the leasing and installation of the robotic system at Cornell's facility in Ithaca. The highlight was the successful completion of a Gastropexy procedure on Finley, a Great Dane, marking a significant milestone in veterinary robotic surgery.
The documentary trailer showcases several achievements:
About R2 Surgical: R2 Surgical remains at the forefront of providing affordable, high-quality pre-owned surgical robots. Their commitment extends beyond sales to ensuring operational excellence and ongoing support for all their systems.
Our documentary "Robots to the Rescue" will be more than just a film; it's a testament to how innovative solutions like those provided by R2 Surgical can revolutionize veterinary medicine. By repurposing advanced technology, Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine and R2 Surgical are paving the way for significant advancements in the field, demonstrating that high costs do not have to be a barrier to technological progress.
